My Long Lost Student
29 years ago, the first scholarship I ever gave out went to a young lady named Angela Brown. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet her in person, and it had always bothered me. Every year, when we’re selecting new students, I would always think about Angela, and wondered how she was. Through the years, we have helped over 160 awesome students go to college. I have met every one of them, except Angela.
A former Malone Scholar, Cierra Kelly, is now the College Now advisor at MLK high school. She invited me to visit her school and talk with some of the students. I went there on on February 4th, 2015 and Cierra introduced me to the librarian, Angela Reagins. You guessed it. Angela Brown, my very 1st scholarship recipient, is now librarian Angela Reagins. I can’t believe we finally met after 20 years. It was an incredible day for me.
